Faye Yan (b.1999, Beijing) is a painter and performance artist based in Manchester, United Kingdom. Her practice draws on intuition and memory to trace visceral sensations and inscrutable feelings of the uncanny.
A dancer and painter, Faye works across painting and movement to examine how unfamiliar emotions and half-remembered experiences can be described. Seeing the body as an unstable archive of memory, she begins her paintings with intuitive marks, allowing embodied sensations to surface and eerie fragments of recollection to unfold through layers.
Faye received her BA in Comparative Literature from UCLA and her MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths, University of London. She has held artist residencies in Finland and Scotland, and has performed and exhibited in London, Los Angeles, Beijing, Edinburgh and Manchester. Her award-nominated solo show Is There Work on Mars? received wide acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and Hollywood Fringe in 2024 and 2025.
